Joan Giménez Co-designer of Muffins R Us
When I started this Master’s degree I didn’t know anything about CLIL. Some months later I have not only learnt what it offers and its advantages, I have also designed a 9-hour Didactic Sequence based on this methodology and applied it during my Practicum in a secondary school. I have had a wonderful experience doing so: my students have not only learnt English, they have learnt about waves, gravity and our Solar System.
Getting into this methodology has not been an easy task, as it requires a lot of preparation, having a good knowledge of the contents and developing many strategies both to teach and to foster communication. This extra effort, though, has been an invaluable learning experience for me. I have discovered a new rich territory in language teaching, and I am sure the experiences I have had will shape the way I teach in the near future.
All the members of our project, Muffins R Us, have been involved in the tasks of preparing and realizing this idea. We wanted to try something which could be fun both for us and for the kids, and it was a delightful experience. As you can imagine, all of us ate at least one muffin before the little ones could finish them all.
