Before starting this course, I had a vague idea about CLIL and how it worked. I was not very fond of it and could not see the real purpose behind. I thought that teaching other subjects in English, students could not pay attention to the language, and as a consequence, English classes would be diminished or relegated to the background. However, after that, Oriol taught us more about CLIL and CRIL and learnt not only about the requirements of what is “good” and “bad” CLIL sessions, but also about the essence and advantages of using it. As such, it requires knowledge of the topic, preparation, the use of effective scaffolding strategies.

All the “Survive” members have been involved in this task, and we have split the work equally. Due to me being part time student I have not been able to put it into practice but I am sure about its effectiveness. CLIL is an interesting and different way of teaching English for both teachers and students, full of meaningful and relevant content to engage them and learn, besides the language, values, attitudes and norms to live in society. The challenge comes when you have an idea in mind and then you have to put it into practice because there are a lot of variables to take into account. But above all, when you see the results, it is more than worth the effort.
