What did I learn in the course?
In this course, I have learnt about the importance of creating an authentic context, not only to engage students with real and interesting material but to help them to better assimilate new content while learning in a dynamic and motivating way
How has the course impacted my future teaching and ideas? How has it contributed to my development as a teacher?
As a language teacher, I had become bored of teaching English through general and overused topics such as holidays, traveling, the weather, etc. However, thanks to the introduction of CLIL, I have come to realize how motivating it can be to teach English through challenging and academic topics such as history, art or science. In the future, I would definitely look to collaborate in CLIL projects as I think that it is a fantastic way to learn a language. Furthermore, I would also use this approach within my English classes so as to engage, motivate and challenge my students
What have I learned with the project and how has it made me rethink / reshape my role as a language teacher?
During the project, I learnt about how visual material such as pictures, drawing, miming as well as body expressions, tone of voice, pace and general enthusiasm helps to not only to make yourself understood, but to get students to participate and thus improve their language skills
How have I participated in the course project?
I came up with the theme and created the material, due to my knowledge of French, I also took on the role of the teacher during the classroom experiment. In addition, I contributed to the written summary of the project.
