As a professor I am very interested in the methodology that is presented in the Content Based Approaches subject of the Màster de professorat de secundària i ensenyaments d’idiomes (UPF-UOC). I am of the opinion that Content Language Learning Instruction (CLIL) is a very effective alternative to the externalization of English as a school subject in Secundària and Formació Professional.
Once CLIL methodology is incorporated into the Syllabus, the following step consists in the scheduling of the test for the recognition of the different levels of English settled in the European common context of reference.
Technical knowledge, specific professional developments, used to be spread in English and in a specific type of English, and used to be less accessible in other forms. The usage of the language in a specific field comes with many opportunities, though this usage will hardly be the most linguistically appropriate. The normalization of CLIL methodology for the Secondary School is interesting since it provides learning autonomy and international mobility in further stages of the students’ development.
What did I learn in the course?
How has the course impacted my future teaching and ideas? How has it contributed to my development as a teacher?
As a professional I am a journalist and a radio and TV operator. I am interested in institutions of professional teaching in Medium and High degree in the branches of Production, Realization, Image and Sound, Photography and cinema studies, where I could share contents in English with a majoritarian public.
What have I learned with the project and how has it made me rethink/reshape my role as a language teacher?
How have I participated in the course project?
I have learned through this course that CLIL methodology has a prospection in Secondary Schools, particularly towards the public institutions. This methodology has been successfully used in private school since the nineties; although it has been traditionally used for catching target students from wealthy families, only a B2 certification is required nowadays for teaching any subject in a foreign language and no economic incentives exist.
I also learned that CLIL provides good results despite of the foreign language level of the students; the results achieved helped students to learn a language outside the English class and to learn technical terms for future job development.
The normalization of English in Secondary education in times of hyper-connected society comes through the implementation of CLIL because a higher level of English is achievable for the first time in this context.
Finally, I have taken part in the video as an actress (student) and as an editor.
